Table of contents for A Joy To Be Alive
The truth is that the joy of being alive does not depend on anything. In fact, it is just the opposite. Rather than being a result, the joy of being alive is a cause. The fleeting, superficial things — beautiful possessions, exciting diversions, pleasurable pursuits — can all certainly be evidence of that underlying joy and can be expressions of that joy, yet in many cases you may have mistaken the expression for the substance.
It is a joy to be alive. There is absolutely nothing you can do to make that a reality because it already is and always will be. What you can do is to accept, acknowledge and experience that reality in the small moments, the big moments, and all the times in between. What you can do is to fill your mind, your heart, your spirit with thankfulness, awe, and wonder in light of the most precious gift of life that is the basis for everything you know.
Ironically, you can miss out on experiencing the joy of life by trying too hard to pursue it. It is not something to be pursued, but something to be accepted and allowed. You try in vain to hold on to summer when autumn will bring a rich and refreshing change. You cling to youth so diligently that you don’t even see the golden shining treasures of maturity. You build shelters from the wind and miss out on the peaceful coolness and rich fragrance that a fresh breeze can bring.
Yet it is not your material progress that hides the joy of life, but rather your unquestioned worship of that progress as the only way to find fulfillment. Material progress and achievement can be enormously fulfilling, yet without the overriding context of life itself, material achievement is nothing.

My dad has always worked really hard to achieve material progress and my mom has always been very materialistic, the most important thing to her is “stuff. Just in the past few years my dad has come to the realization that material processions really aren’t all they are cut out to be and that family is more important. He has realized this, number one because he is getting older, and number two because he has finally received Christ. In the past two years he has almost lost or given away most of his material processions and he is concentrating on his family a lot more than he used to. I can truly see joy in him now when he is doing something with the family or for the family, I hope that everybody reading this article finally gets it too.
You are absolutely correct when you said it is a joy to be alive in your article. Like you said we have to acknowledge it and accept it because it is fact and it isn’t going to change. Be thankful everyday for your life and the small things in it. Accept that you are getting older, it isn’t a bad thing, don’t try so hard to hang on to the things that are fleeting like the seasons but embrace what is changing and find the good things in it to fill you with joy. Life is a blessing embrace it and accept it.
I looked up the word attitude and is defined as “the position or bearing as indicating action, feeling or mood.” And it is true that it is our actions, feelings or moods that determine the actions, feelings or moods of others. I would venture to say that our attitude tells the world what we expect in return. If it is a cheerful, expectant attitude, it says to everyone with whom we come in contact that we expect the best in our dealings with our world. And if you think about it this way, you realize that we tend to live up to our expectations. And others give to us, as far as their attitudes are concerned, what we expect.
